poetry

let us pity those who are better off than we are
days endeared to every muse
stay no more
glooms of the live-oaks
there was a time in former years
when sea-winds pierced our solitudes
sun stepped down from his golden throne
the long resounding marble corridors
have we no shame?
of sun nor stars
the old west, the old time
i have to say good-night
as evening falls
