short poem

earth travails
when sea-winds pierced our solitudes
friend, whose smile has come to be
sweet splendor
out of me unworthy and unknown
in and of itself
i flung my soul to the air like a falcon flying
beneath the warrior's helm
a look is but a ray
we were not many
