break up poem

a gleam of gold in gloom and gray
the old west, the old time
for truth, for love
they threw a stone, you threw a stone
beside a stricken field
when i returned at sunset
who loves the rain
babylon-where i go dreaming
still thirteen years
which keeps
i loathed you
