friendship poem

our pleasant moments fly
friend, whose smile has come to be
with the sunset
behold me, in my chiffon, gauze and tinsel
those black eyes i once so praised
darkest, strangest mystery
a pen of steel
a thin gray shadow on the edge of thought
when night drifts along the streets of the city
my mother twines me roses wet with dew
a mile behind
when the hours of day are numbered
i loathed you
