friendship poetry

the light withdrawn
muffled drum's sad roll has beat
i am old and blind
i've won the race
like him whose spirit in the blaze of noon
these hearts were woven of human joys and cares
i am singing to you
let us plant
a mile behind
along a river-side
renew the vision of delight
her face is fair and smooth and fine
