teenage love poem

look back with longing eyes and know that i will follow
she said
there was a strangeness on your lips
happiness
perhaps it is no matter that you died
before the solemn bronze saint
you are clear
arched the flood
for truth, for love
last midnight
there is no escape by the river
in new york harbor
