son poem

shadows lay along broadway
have you heard
the darkness
little gate was reached at last
death's nobility again
for then without
in your arms was still delight
the stars fell from heaven
i love my life, but not too well
the agony of having too much power
all down the years
over the rooftops race the shadows of clouds
we lay
