family poetry

gone before us
under a spreading chestnut tree
have you heard
high-born race
this is the arsenal
will you glimmer on the sea?
why so sad my lovely one?
all down the years
if i were very sure
gloom
awful truths these be
tell me not
they in the darkness gather and ask
the endless, foolish merriment of stars
