father poem

little gate was reached at last
have we no shame?
stern cold man
in may
i have had one fear in my life
all my love for my sweet
tell me
at dawn, he said
i was a goddess ere the marble found me
if i were very sure
my mother taught me that every night
what shall we do now
a mile behind
