wedding poem

when sea-winds pierced our solitudes
i am fevered
the smell of the rose so false, the thorns so true
the dawn was apple-green
i love my hour of wind and light
lived by the river-side
you are beautiful and faded
i make my shroud, but no one knows
tell me not
skies they were ashen and sober
the little white prayers
