poetry poem

if it
lived by the river-side
truely
melancholy, blue it was
the ships are lying in the bay
up from the meadows rich with corn
no prey am i of poor thoughts
in new york harbor
that strange companion came on shuffling feet
where shall i find you
little gate was reached at last
you are clear
her face is fair and smooth and fine
i know what you're going to say
