sad poetry

awful truths these be
when i was a boy at college
in his guarded tent
not from the whole wide world
see, they return
once this soft turf
it was many and many a year ago
sweet with fern and rose
stern cold man
the light withdrawn
there is no flock, however watched and tended
sweet splendor
