retirement poem

beautiful, tragical faces
sweet with fern and rose
what do i owe to you
i cannot always feel his greatness
mysterious night
stay no more
calm as that second summer
do the boys and girls still go
when a deed is done for freedom
in his guarded tent
tell me not
i am fevered
