short love poem

candles toppling sideways in tomato cans
i made a vow once, one only
desolate and lone
the sun is up
could we but know
of sun nor stars
in may
fat black bucks in a wine-barrel room
i know not where
in september
out of the sparkling sea
gaily through the fields we danced
dark-eyed
