short poem

a look is but a ray
i had over-prepared the event
sweet and strong
i have cast the world
i know what you're going to say
backward, turn backward
what do i owe to you
i am old and blind
in may
in new york harbor
there is a city, builded by no hand
give me
since, if you stood by my side today
have we no shame?
