life poem

lo! 'tis a gala night
a gleam of gold in gloom and gray
stuff of the moon
i was a goddess ere the marble found me
to some the fat gods
in new york harbor
as a naked man i go
the air is full of dawn and spring
gone before us
mysterious night
a thin gray shadow on the edge of thought
stir
often is it not so?
