grandmother poem

storm
i am old and blind
like eagles on up high
in new york harbor
she might have known it in the earlier spring
my soul is a dark ploughed field
gingham dog and the calico cat
he's gone
give me
dark-eyed
wrap the earth in cloudy weather
simplicity
since i have felt the sense of death
