daughter poem

i saw you hunched and shivering on the stones
doubtless i remember still
the poets tell
she heard the children playing in the sun
see, from this counterfeit of him
i have cast the world
i wonder where you live
in the sphere
a gleam of gold in gloom and gray
gone are the three, those sisters rare
when freedom from her mountain height
earth travails
some of the hurts you have cured
