sad death poem

day is done
better than granite
stay no more
i do not pray for peace
high-born race
in mournful numbers
the rain was over, and the brilliant air
looking beyond
under dusky laurel leaf
the dawn was apple-green
shades of night were falling fast
have we no shame?
