christian poetry

let me move slowly through the street
long has the summer sunlight shone
a sky that has never known sun, moon or stars
a flying word from here and there
i said
gone are the three, those sisters rare
i burn no incense
since i have felt the sense of death
against the green flame of the hawthorn-tree
when sea-winds pierced our solitudes
do not turn your head
two rows of cabbages
all down the years
