elements of poetry

she might have known it in the earlier spring
i've won the race
when sea-winds pierced our solitudes
she must go back, she said

let us express our baser passions
two rows of cabbages
under the harvest moon
rising moon has hid the stars
in the cloud-gray mornings
when i was broke in london
shadows lay along broadway
