child poem

a gleam of gold in gloom and gray
mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam
there are gains for all our losses
i sometimes wonder if it's really true
the rain was over, and the brilliant air
the ships are lying in the bay
this is the ship of pearl
the air is full of dawn and spring
in the sphere
could we but know
arched the flood
my true love from her pillow rose
they threw a stone, you threw a stone
brother, i am fire
