the darkness rolls upward
there is an hour of peaceful rest
for then without
she limps with halting painful pace
those black eyes i once so praised
beside a stricken field
i went up and down the streets
gone before us
in an old chamber softly lit
in the cloud-gray mornings
i loathed you
