poem for pastors

into the silent land
i hold your heart
do the boys and girls still go
lady, your heart has turned to dust
what shall we do now
one sweetly solemn thought
he's gone
come down at dawn from windless hills
once this soft turf
a gleam of gold in gloom and gray
a thousand silent years ago
i am old and blind
