footprint poem

in new york harbor
dear wife
the air is like a butterfly
why do
up from the meadows rich with corn
the sun is up
a mile behind
the ancient songs
from song and dream for ever gone
it was the autumn of the year
the little white prayers
tell me not
last night the full moon laid a cloth of white
