african american poetry

long ago, in the young moonlight
and breaketh bread no more
i am fevered
love me at last, or if you will not
love has been sung a thousand ways
i shake my hair in the wind of morning
those on the top say they know you, earth-they are liars
some of the hurts you have cured
i love to steal awhile away
she must go back, she said
see i give myself to you
earth travails
how shall i help to right the world that is going wrong
babylon-where i go dreaming
