family poem

i stood by the open casement
we lay
as evening falls
we who stood
the fragrance came
they in the darkness gather and ask
that year
see, from this counterfeit of him
so lost
the little white prayers
blossoms of babies
somewhere i read a strange, old, rusty tale
do not turn your head
