pumpkin poem

i am a woman
the sun is up
i've won the race
candles toppling sideways in tomato cans
those on the top say they know you, earth-they are liars
there is no escape by the river
when the veil from the eyes is lifted
who loves the rain
at dawn, he said
he came and took me by the hand
