narrative poetry

the little white prayers
at midnight
you are clear
rising moon has hid the stars
the light withdrawn
see, they return
pharaoh, king of egypt's land
they in the darkness gather and ask
why are the things that have no death
sweet and strong
a mist was driving down
under a spreading chestnut tree
and so it goes
