fall poem

i fill this cup
from our hidden places
i saw the archangels in my apple-tree last night
i despise my friends more than you
a life on the ocean wave
often is it not so?
brother, i am fire
come down at dawn from windless hills
could we but know
i reside at table mountain
in new york harbor
