narrative poetry

dear wife
desolate and lone
i reside at table mountain
all down the years
master of human destinies am i
under dusky laurel leaf
lo! 'tis a gala night
lived by the river-side
noises that strive to tear
the child who threw away leaf after leaf
give me
dark-eyed
