fall poem

there is no escape by the river
the shadows of the ships
my mother twines me roses wet with dew
the single clenched fist lifted and ready
a thousand silent years ago
once this soft turf
i cannot always feel his greatness
when sea-winds pierced our solitudes
over the rooftops race the shadows of clouds
last midnight
as a naked man i go
old wine to drink
my sorrow, when she's here with me
