friend poem

a gleam of gold in gloom and gray
as i lie roofed in, screened in
i saw the clouds among the hills
and as we walked the grass was faintly stirred
stuff of the moon
and breaketh bread no more
when freedom from her mountain height
why do you always stand there shivering
roses and gold
with the sunset
i love my hour of wind and light
babylon-where i go dreaming
the body may confine
i saw him once before
