narrative poetry

as a white candle
afraid no more, i say
still her gray rocks tower above the sea
wrap the earth in cloudy weather
just now
i hold your heart
i had over-prepared the event
the light withdrawn
though love repine, and reason chafe
up from the meadows rich with corn
all down the years
