halloween poetry

gingham dog and the calico cat
i am weary of being bitter and weary of being wise
when i returned at sunset
in mournful numbers
the poets tell
i loathed you
a thin gray shadow on the edge of thought
of sun nor stars
in and of itself
to come so soon to this imagined dark
roses and gold
