poem for dad

muffled drum's sad roll has beat
you are my companion
but i cannot read you now
they may talk of love in a cottage
a gleam of gold in gloom and gray
with lips blood red and heart of stone
had he and i but met
my soul is a dark ploughed field
we lay
i walk down the garden paths
here falls no light
in your flight
quietly, with reverance, in awe
