retirement poem

all quiet along the potomac
the lightning flashed, and lifted
within my hand i hold
quietly, with reverance, in awe
i loathed you
be in me as the eternal moods
tripping up, falling down
to be able to see every side of every question
when sea-winds pierced our solitudes
tell me not
i saw the clouds among the hills
above them all, looking down
is there anybody there
so fallen
