death poem

up and down he goes
the little white prayers
i am dying
since, if you stood by my side today
not from the whole wide world
i expect you
my soul is a dark ploughed field
i have heard them in the night
she was a beauty in the days
those black eyes i once so praised
the long resounding marble corridors
