teen poetry

a mile behind
the poets tell
under dusky laurel leaf
once this soft turf
against the green flame of the hawthorn-tree
i make my shroud, but no one knows
happiness
tell me not
there is no escape by the river
i am old and blind
for then without
no prey am i of poor thoughts
with joy and wonder
from song and dream for ever gone
