Sir: Professors Scott, Coffield, Ball and Taylor (letter, 2 June) are to be congratulated on indicating that the Government's education policy is self-defeating because of frequent shifts in policy. But this is not all that is wrong. Comparative studies of educational achievement show that we are falling slowly down the international league tables.
